PTE Exam Structure and Format

    • Speaking & Writing takes around 54 to 67 minutes, including tasks like summarising written text and writing essays.

    • Reading is 29 to 30 minutes long with multiple question types.

    • Listening spans 30 to 43 minutes, including tasks such as summarising spoken text. The scoring ranges from 10 to 90 points, correlating with Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels from B1 (Intermediate) to C2 (Proficient).​

Eligibility and Registration

Candidates must be at least 16 years old to take the PTE Academic exam; those under 18 need parental consent. There are no educational prerequisites set by Pearson, making the test accessible to recent school leavers, professionals, and migrants. The total number of questions ranges from about 65 to 85 distributed across these sections, with Speaking & Writing typically having 35-43 tasks, Reading 15-20 tasks, and Listening 15-22 tasks.
